Today we went a few places to celebrate Alex’s birthday. We made a bear (Carly is her name) at the Build A Bear Workshop and then we went to Chuck E. Cheese’s for pizza and game playing. We played a lot of skee ball, basketball and other games for a bit. After that we headed home to pick her outfit out for tomorrow’s big day. Although Thursday will technically be bigger, tomorrow is the actual first day of her going to school. We’ve visited it once when she went in for testing but this will be an hour and a half “orientation”. We go one way, she goes another. I’m sure she’ll be fine on her own but I’m a little sad that my little girl is starting school. After tomorrow she’ll go alone for two days and then have a three day weekend. It’s a big time for us. I’ve never had any kids in school so I don’t know when her bus will be or much else. Hopefully we’ll get all the important details tomorrow.

Today after I got the oil changed we headed for the NH/ME area. First we headed to The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire. It was very inexpensive and fun. I took a lot of photos with the good camera so once I’ve gotten them off the camera and down-sized, I’ll post some. After the museum we went to the Kittery Outlets. We didn’t buy too much but we walked around a lot and got some good exercise. We topped it off with dinner at a famous place called Bob’s Clam Hut, which was featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It was very good food, better than I expected. The place was pretty small and the smell of seafood made you a little sick but everything we ordered came out perfect. Of course during the day I did manage to grab one Maine geocache and now I’ve got all New England states covered. New York and Florida are the other two states I’ve found caches in. Time for bed.

Today it was pretty busy and we were unusually understaffed compared to most Fridays. I did my best to sell, answer questions and do tech work. I stayed a little late to get some work done and I’ll probably go in a little early to get a jump start on work. It’s a relatively short day before vacation so I don’t mind a little extra work. I’m still not 100% intent on working retail but it’s a job and I’m happy to have one. If a better one comes along to apply to, I will. If I get an offer for a job that’s better, I’ll take it. Until then, I am where I am.

The big topic Deb and I are talking about is things to do at least on Monday or Tuesday before Alex starts going to school. We may go to the Boston Aquarium or somewhere. Who knows? It’s nice being in the middle of a pretty small state. Two hours (or a bit more?) in any direction is up to 6 other states (Maine in 2 hours is debatable). Not too many other people have that luxury. I have no problem doing a few hours of driving to do something I’ve never done in a place I’ve never been. We’ll see what we come up with.

Tonight Alex and I went to the town common for one the “Concerts on the Common”. It was a very good Aerosmith tribute band called Draw The Line. Alex got a free beach ball that they were giving out and had fun playing for a bit but I knew she wouldn’t want to stay forever. We heard maybe 6 or 7 songs and left. They sounded good and I knew all the songs, even ones from the 70′s.

I forgot to mention my fun experience trying to locate a part for my car. One of the rear brake lights had been acting up (shorting out) so I set out to get a part to fix it. The mechanic called a dealership with no luck. They referred us to another dealership that I called on my own. This place wanted to charge me $200+ for an entire rear left tail light assembly. The whole area was fine, the part I needed is a small plastic $5 part at most. I called junk yards and no one knew if they had it. One place I found was “Sam’s Pull-a-Part” in Worcester. I had heard of junk yards where you go looking for the part but I had never had a reason to do it. After my interview I went part pullin’ and got it. It was $2 to enter the junk yard and the part was free. My brake light works wonderfully. I was in awe at this place. People were just ripping cars apart having a ball. If I ever need another part I know where I’m going.

This morning at 9 I went to the interview I’ve been looking forward to since the 13th. I think it went okay but those people were hard to read. I was nervous but I handled it well. It all depends on who else is interviewing and if they felt I was qualified enough. I’m trying to forget about it and assume I didn’t get it. They say they’ll get back to me either way but I’m not holding my breath in the meantime. If I get, I get it. If not, I’ll be fine. I’ll have to grit out more time at the current place until I find something better. We’ll see how it all ends up.

It’s getting pretty ridiculous and I probably won’t say anything to anyone until I have another job but I can still bitch here. I can’t complain too much because I got to do my job all day today, even with a certain co-worker there. What angers me is that she gets away with doing nothing. She was not on the sales floor selling nor was she doing tech work. She was able to float by all day doing nothing. I’ve always said I was jealous of what she’s able to get away with but I don’t think I’d even want to do what she does. I like working and keeping busy, it makes time go by faster.

Tomorrow will be busy with tech work left over but slow on the sales floor. Monday through Thursday are the slowest days of the week. I have my interview Tuesday and one of two things will end up happening. I get the new job and start there or I don’t and I have a week off. I would much rather get the new job but it may not happen. If it doesn’t happen I’ll keep looking and applying until I get a new job. I don’t have to get out now, it’s not a terrible call center job but I do want something else. I want something better. If it’s not better, I’m staying put. We’ll see how it goes.

Today was crazy driving to work because there’s an air show going on in Westfield and it caused heavy delays on the highways. I was an hour and a half late for work and that was not nearly as much as some others. I have devised a perfect path to work tomorrow and I’m leaving very very early. We shall see if my perfect path is in fact as I think.

As the days go by I find myself counting down the time until my big interview. I was 10 minutes (and a week) early and I had basically no sleep the night before. This Tuesday is a do over and I will be more than 10 minutes early with plenty of sleep the night before. I’ve put so much on this that I’m not sure how I’ll handle not getting the job. I hope I don’t have to worry about that. Time for bed.
